RSS Feeds Now you don't have to keep visiting the MCG page all the time to see what's new, let your RSS Feed reader do the work for you. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an XML-based format for content distribution that allows you to subscribe to information "Feeds" defined by various internet sites. You must have a progam (the RSS Reader or feed reader) on your computer do the checking for updates or new entries periodically or every time you connect to the internet if you aren't always connected. You will need an RSS Reader to subscribe to the MCG Feed. Something like Sage will work if you use FireFox http://sage.mozdev.org/install/ For a standalone reader, try Feedreader - http://www.feedreader.com/ (it's free, has some default RSS subscriptions, so you can see how it all works), Opera has it as a standard feature. To find out how to get started using an RSS reader, have a look at the How to read RSS feeds on www.download.com. When you click on the button a prompt window will display with the URL you need to copy into your RSS reader to subscribe to the feed. This popup may be blocked in Inter Explorer 6; either allow blocked active content temporarily or right-click on the RSS icon and select "Copy Shortcut" from the menu, then paste into your RSS reader. For Opera, just copy the address into the URL box and press enter, it will ask you if you want to subscribe to the feed. Note that with FeedReader, you may have to right-click in the internal Browser window and select Refresh to see the latest updates if you've visited the page previously the same day. A feed has been set up that will provide information from the News & Events, Funding, Member Groups and Catchment Planning pages.
