The Group has been active since 2004 and in this short time has developed some impressive initiatives including the production and implementation of the Molonglo Catchment Strategy, culminating in the Australian Government Regional Landcare Award for the ACT in 2005. The implementation of the Strategy is underway, having provided support to landholders undertaking riparian rehabilitation works within priority sub-catchments through funding under the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, the current projects continue in a similar vein, with incentives supported by the Australian Government's Caring for our Country initiative. The Group facilitates the Molonglo Catchment Health indicators Program (M-CHiP), a community water-quality monitoring program throughout the catchment.

What do you get for your membership?

The Group will, amongst other things:

• Small Project Funding Support

  The Molonglo Catchment Group is again offering its member groups funding for on-ground projects (eg. for plants, tree-guards, herbicides or pesticides), small equipment, field days and workshops. Applications would normally be expected to be up to $500, but larger projects up to $2,000 will be considered. Applications will be assessed according to criteria including consistency with the Molonglo Catchment Strategy, ACT NRM Council’s Bush Capital Legacy and/or the Murrumbidgee CMA Catchment Action Plan. Applications for small equipment will be assessed for the benefits to Landcare / Park Care volunteers within the region.

• provide assistance in the development of projects and sponsor applications for grants such as Australian Government Community Action Grants and ACT and NSW Government Environment Grants by members and member groups, and assist with administration of the grant;
• provide a fortnightly electronic bulletin with information about items of interest, coming events and funding opportunities in the Molonglo catchment;
• provide a regular newsletter highlighting our recent activities and those of our member groups;
• consider requests to subsidise training such as ChemCert, First Aid Certificate, Chainsaw Operation Certificate and relevant forum/workshop attendance by members and member groups’ members;
• provide expertise on local vegetation; and
• provide assistance with River and Grassland Restoration.

For new and renewing member groups and organisations, we have also put together a ‘show-bag’ ( 210 KB) of goodies.

Individual Membership - 2011

If you are not involved in a member Landcare or Parkcare group, then individual membership may be for you.

As well as the above, individual members are covered by MCG's Volunteer Accident and Public Liability Insurance at MCG-organised events.

Community Group Membership - 2011

For community groups, in addition to the above, the Molonglo Catchment Group will:

• offer small grants to our member groups to assist with on-ground projects, hold talks and field days and purchase small equipment and chemicals such as back-pack sprayers and herbicide;
• make small equipment such as GPS units, a data projector, digital camera, and HD video camera available for loan;
• maintain web-pages, (e.g. notification of activities, make newsletters downloadable) on behalf of member groups to keep their members and the wider community informed of activities; and
• provide access to a display trailer.

Corporate Membership - 2011

The benefits of official membership to Corporate bodies are many.  The MCG is eager to form working relationships with industry and corporate bodies. Ultimately, relationships that benefit the community whilst raising the environmental awareness and profile of your organisation are in fact, a win-win proposition. Corporate membership will be acknowledged by the MCG through:

• Provision of an official Membership Certificate;
• Inclusion of a short summary of your organisation (including a logo) on our website ‘Our Partners’ page; and
• A written notice in our weekly Email circular, ‘News & Events’— to over 400 community volunteers, government agencies and politicians.

Corporate Membership fees for 2011 are a minimum of $100 per organisation. Please download the Corporate Membership Form ( 192 KB) which can be completed and posted to the contacts provided.
